Annoying habits
We all know someone who has an annoying habit. Is it best to say something to them or not? How long should we accept this behavior without saying anything?
At what point in a relationship does a person become overly comfortable? I was recently sitting next to someone I would consider only an acquaintance. He either felt comfortable enough in my presence or it was a habit of his. He began picking scabs and eating them. This freaked me out and also got me thinking about other annoying habits. Below are just a few things that bother me, I would love to know what things bother you. Please leave a note below if there is something that really irks you. Or do people tell you that you have an annoying habit?
Nose picking
We all know who these people are. Some don't even care that we are watching. Some will try and be sneaky and pretend they are just rubbing their nose whilst others shove their finger in almost to their elbow to find that elusive annoyance.
What is worse is when someone blocks one nostril and blows through the other thus release free flying mucous in all directions.
My advice: Use a tissue!
Blowing bubbles
Some people find this a skill, others find this an annoyance. The bubbles coupled with the smacking and incessant jaw movement are enough to bother the most patient person. If I want to see this I will go and stand in a field of cows chewing the cud.
Farting
Flatulence, breaking wind, passing gas or just plain farting whatever you want to call it, it is annoying. In a relationship, this is something that begins with an apology, then moves on to a "whoops", then a laugh, then an "Ahh" and even sometimes a "WooHoo". Why oh why, does this happen? Is it okay to fart on purpose and then just apologize? I am going to make a bold, brash, sexist statement here. Why do you men do it? If we women can discreetly conceal ours so can you.
Wait a minute, I forgot, we women don't admit to flatulence.
- Farting
Do you or someone you know seem to fart too much. It could be the result of an incorrect diet or simply a lack of exercise. Find out how you can reduce the unwanted effect.
Belching
In some countries this is considered a compliment after a meal. However, we don't live in those countries. In some families it is completely unacceptable except by the father. Children are reprimanded and chastised and told it isn't polite.
Amongst certain age groups it is a badge of honor to see who can belch the loudest. At what age I ask you do you grow up enough to burp quietly and then apologize?
Nail biting and picking
This annoying habit can cause worms and other diseases. Think about where your hands have been and you won't be so quick to put your fingers into your mouth. You may think they are clean but what have you touched since the last time you washed your hands. A shopping cart, a door handle, the dog? Biting nails or the skin around them is never a good thing and only leave your fingers and nails looking ugly and open to infection.
Speaking with you mouth full
Have you ever sat across the table from someone who talks with their mouth full? I personally don't want to see half masticated food while I am eating. It is like watching a cement mixer churning. Nothing, and I repeat nothing is that important . The possible exception could be if my hair was on fire but nothing less than that. I can wait to hear their thoughts on world affairs until after they swallow.
Interrupting when someone is speaking
If you know someone who is consistently doing this it is difficult to stop them. I tend to put my hand up to motion them to stop and say, "I'll just finish what I was saying" or "If you let me finish". This is not only a bad habit it is bad manners. Interrupting negates the statement of the other person and leaves them feeling as though their opinion is less valued.
If it is a child who is constantly interrupting, it is best to nip this in the bud early.
Spitting
Why do people not use a tissue to spit in? If this is a result of phlegm from smoking then stop smoking. I hate seeing people spit. I don't want to walk in it, and I don't want to see it on the sidewalks it is just revolting.
In places where people still use chewing tobacco it is even worse. Then you have a gooey glob of brown gunk. DISGUSTING!
